A difficult but rewarding season

So ends this year's efforts. Of the 37 originally-registered teams, 20 had qualified, 18 were still in the rayce at the end, and the Red River Raycer finished 16th in points. At the awards banquet, the r3 Team received the following prizes:

-Green Award, for most fuel-efficient convoy. With the Manitoba Transportation-supplied Civic Hybrids, and the Vickar-supplied diesel Silverado, this team was unmatched.
-KISS Award, engineering-speak for Keep It Simple, Stupid. The clean look of the car drew attention.
-Best Workmanship, self-explanatory, and the Red River students are well-deserving.
-Best Mechanical, which just reinforces the fact that the Red River College's Mechanical Engineering Technology department was not outwitted in this world-class field.

That counts 4 of a total 10 awards handed out that night. The Red River Raycer certainly made its mark. Next time out though, they're going for the rayce result, taking everything that they've learned to challenge Stanford, Calsol and Iowa State for top Stock Class honours.

But for now, the team will rest, letting all they've experienced sink in, before preparing for the next rayce 2 years away. They will be putting the car on display, then enjoying a Goldeyes baseball game in a luxury box Wednesday, August 10, courtesy of Polar Bear Windows.

Hope to see you there!
